Science
At Edward Francis, we use the Kapow Science scheme to support our Science teaching. We follow the key objectives and progression within Kapow, while supplementing lessons with a range of additional resources and practical activities to enrich the children’s learning.
We aim to develop a real love of Science and encourage children to be curious about the world around them. Alongside developing their scientific knowledge and understanding, we encourage children to think and work like scientists - asking questions, making predictions, carrying out investigations, observing carefully, recording their findings and using evidence to draw conclusions.
Our aim is for children to see Science as an exciting, practical and relevant subject, where they can explore ideas, make discoveries and develop the skills they need to understand the world around them.

National Science Week
Each year, during National Science Week, we carry out exciting experiments and activities designed to inspire awe and wonder, alongside whole-school Science competitions and challenges. We regularly celebrate the achievements of scientists and explore the wide range of careers and opportunities that Science can offer, helping children to see how their scientific knowledge and skills could be used in the future.
Eco-Reps
Each class elects Eco Reps who help to promote care for our school environment and encourage everyone to keep our site clean, tidy and looking its best.
This year, our Eco Reps will be taking on an exciting new project as they help to develop a school garden and growing area. They will be involved in planning, planting and caring for the space, while learning more about nature, sustainability and where our food comes from.
