Inclusion Team

The Inclusion Team

The Inclusion Team comprises of:

Mrs Vinnicombe – Assistant Headteacher
Mrs Rowan – Inclusion Manager
Mrs Jones – Learning Mentor

Mrs Hammond – Child and Family Support worker

This page will be regularly updated with useful information, links and resources.

We are committed to ensuring all children, regardless of their differences, have access to first quality teaching and become independent and successful learners. We are passionate about developing self-awareness, resilience, self-belief, and a growth mind-set in all our children.

The team works closely with all staff to ensure that any barriers to learning are identified, and appropriate support is offered. Working closely with our children and parents helps us to develop a real understanding of each child and their individual needs.

Young Carers

Bronze Award Badge

At Edward Francis we are committed to continually developing our provision for Young Carers and their families.

We achieved the Bronze Young Carers in Schools Award in the summer of 2022 and the Silver Award in Autumn 2023.  In June 2024, we were thrilled to have been awarded the new Young Carers in Schools Award.

To continue to meet the aims of this award:

·We will ensure that the whole school is committed to meeting the needs of Young Carers so that they can attend and enjoy school in the same way as other pupils and achieve their potential.

·We have appointed Mrs Vinnicombe as the Senior Leadership Team Lead. Mrs Jones and Mrs Hammond have been appointed as Young Carers leads and take responsibility for young carers within Edward Francis and their families.

·The school has implemented an effective internal referral system and have strong partnerships in place with relevant external agencies, including SCAFT and Essex Young Carers

·Information will only be shared with external agencies and professionals on a need to know basis in order to maximise the level of support Young Carers and their families receive.

·We will seek feedback from our young carers and their families to ensure their needs are met and appropriate support is provided.

·The school will use Pupil Premium funding to minimise any barriers to education and learning experienced by eligible young carers.

We will strive to achieve best practice for students and families in our school in order to provide them with the best chance of success in their future.

Is my child a young carer?

You're a young carer if you're under 18 and help to look after a relative with a disability, illness, mental health condition, or drug or alcohol problem.

If you're a young carer, you probably look after one of your parents or care for a brother or sister.

You may do extra jobs in and around the home, such as cooking, cleaning or helping someone get dressed and move around.

You may also give a lot of physical help to a parent, brother or sister who's disabled or ill.

Along with doing things to help your brother or sister, you may be giving them and your parents emotional support, too.  (Taken from the NHS website)

If you think your child might be a young carer, please contact Mrs Hammond (chammond@edwardfrancis.essex.sch.uk) for information on how we can support them.

For more information on how to support young carers who have a sibling who is disabled, has a special educational need or serious long-term condition, contact Mrs Hammond or go to
