  • Marie Curie Little Pots of Care

    Thu 03 Mar 2011

Over the last few days the children have been bringing in the daffodils they have been trying to grow to raise awareness and money for The Marie Curie Cancer Care charity.

As many daffodils have yet to flower and some have flowered and died, we decided to judge the pot labels the children had completed.

The winning labels are pictured below.

Thank you for all those who took part, and everyone who donated some money or collected money for the charity.

    Mon 06 Dec 2010
It is our intention to open today.  Main roads are reasonably clear but we ask those walking to school or using side roads to be very careful.

A reminder from the Parent Association that, should the school be open, the Christmas Bazaar will be taking place on Monday 6th December.  Children are able to play games for 20p each and buy presents for family members at £1 each.  All money must be in a named purse (and a list of who to buy for is useful for younger children).
  • Christmas CD Sales

    Mon 06 Dec 2010
Since the school had to close last week due to the snow, we have extended the deadline to order your copy of the Christmas CD until Wednesday 8th December.  All orders must be handed into your child's class LSA by this date, if you wish to receive the CD by Christmas!

Thank you to all of you who came last night to support the Year 6 choir at the switch on of the Rayleigh Christmas lights.

It may have been cold but I'm sure you'll agree that the singing warmed our hearts.

Well done to all the Year 6 involved, and thank you to the staff who helped with the singing. dancing, organising and supporting.

  • We Wore Something Spotty for Children in Need 2010 - photos added.

    Fri 19 Nov 2010

We were all seeing spots today at school.

There were spotty shirts, spotty tights, spotty bandannas, spotty socks and several faces covered with coloured spots too!

The pictures below were taken throughout the day.

    Even the adults got involved.
Look at the last 4 photographs, can you work out which members of staff have had their spotty pictures cropped?

Your donations amounted to £240 and this will be sent to
    Children in Need.

    Thank you all.

    -----

In addition to this three Year 6 girls organised a colouring competition for Children in Need.
Their picture, along with the winners, has now been added.
  • Discounted tickets for the Palace Theatre Chamber Music Recitals

    Mon 08 Nov 2010
The Palace Theatre in Westcliff are offering pupils of EFJS and their families discounted tickets to see a recital by Natalie Clien, on the cello and Katya Apekisheva, playing the piano on 11th November 2010 at 7.30pm.

The theatre describes the evening as follows:

To start our Palace Theatre Chamber Music Series, we are very pleased to welcome two of today's outstanding young artists, Natalie Clien and Katya Apekisheva. Natalie will start the programme with the sublime unaccompanied Cello Suite No. 2 by Bach. This will be followed by a performance of Shostakovich's haunting Cello Sonata which was commissioned by the famous Russian cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. In the second half, a short piece of Sibelius will be followed by one of Rachmaninov's greatest works. Rachmaninov is, of course, mainly renowned for his concertos and symphonies, but his Cello Sonata with its extraordinarily beautiful slow movement is one of the great chamber works written in the 20th Century.

Tickets would normally cost £14.00 but are being offered to our pupils at a cost of £5.00 per ticket. They can be booked in person through the box office, or by calling 01702 351153, quoting Edward Francis Junior School/Miss Jeffryes.
